Your first Beer Yoga Class- What to bring and what to expect!

So you decided to try beer yoga, you probably want to know what to expect at your first class. Don't be intimidated, we are here to have fun and drink beer! Here, are some tips to keep in mind for your first class.

Get to the tap room at least 15 minutes early:  This will ensure there is enough time to fill out any necessary paperwork (probably just the first time), check out any of the vendors for the event and begin to get settled before class. Most Importantly, this will give you a chance to place your yoga mat where you feel comfortable in the room. The door of the tap room is locked after 11 am since we are the only people in the space before they open.

Eat a light meal or snack before class. Have something healthy and light, avoid foods that are greasy or heavy. Having a little something in your stomach will make sure that you don't feel light headed during class and can enjoy your delicious brew!

Drink water before and after the class: It is important to stay hydrated during class. Even more important during beer yoga because in a typical yoga class, you will lose water weight this is increased with the consumption of alcohol. Try to start drinking water before class since your body needs time for it to be absorbed for proper hydration. Have a hangover from the night before? Don't skip class! Sweating will help ease your hangover, just take it easy and listen to your body.

Wear comfortable clothes that don't restrict your movement. You don't need to wear expensive yoga pants or spandex, just wear something that you feel comfortable in The only suggestion would be to try and avoid wearing clothes that are too loose or too tight, you don't want to spend the whole class adjusting your outfit instead of enjoying the class. Alo, keep in mind that clothes that are too loose will make it challenging for the instructors to check your alignment! Yoga has a ton of bending and stretching, so keep that in mind when choosing your outfit.

Take off your shoes!   Yoga is practiced barefoot and practicing barefoot allows for a better grip on your mat. If you have any problem being barefoot,  keep your socks on—or invest in a pair of yoga socks.

Talk to us before class! Don't be shy, we are here to help and guide you through the class! Let us know any limitations and medical conditions you have that might affect your practice. We can offer modifications to adjust the poses to your needs.

Keep your cell phones off.  Be mindful of the other students and be respectful, keep your phone off or on silent! After class, feel free to take a ton of pics around the space! Don't forget to tag us, #skyogachicago #revolutionbeeryoga

Leave any body-shame or judgment at the door.  This is a safe space, no one is going to judge you and there is competition in this class. We are here to have fun, sweat and drink some beer! It doesn't matter if you aren't super flexible or can't yet do a pose. This is your practice and your body- so listen to it! Don't push or overextend to keep up with someone else in the class. IIf you feel overwhelmed or like you need a break, have some beer and chill in child's pose!

What to bring. Make sure to bring your ID, this is a 21 and over event, we will be carding! Bring a mat, towel and water bottle. You may also want to bring a little extra cash to order another beer, have some food delivered after class or buy some cool swag!
